NSI The Australian Desert Rat Shot Shell - 28gm - 1250 fps - 9 - 12G - 250 Round Slab
NSI The Australian Desert Rat Shot Shell - 28gm - 1250 fps - 9 - 12G - 250 Round Slab
Built for high-volume clay target shooting and light game work, the NSI The Australian Desert Rat Shot Shell - 28gm - 1250 fps - 9 - 12G - 250 Round Slab is the result of a collaboration between Bronzewing Australia and Italian ammunition manufacturer NSI, delivering a genuinely performance-focused load at a price point that makes running through a full slab an easy decision. Loaded with Nobel Sport Vectan 206 powder and the NSI GT24 wad, this shell is engineered for a long, even pressure curve that smooths out the recoil impulse, making it well-suited to sustained sessions on the clay ground or a day in the field after quail. At 28 grams of #9 tempered lead shot pushing out at 1250 fps from a 70mm shell, it fits squarely in the sweet spot for disciplines like Down-The-Line, 5-Stand, and Sporting Clays. Every component, from the Martignoni 688 primer through to the shot charge, is manufactured entirely in-house by NSI in Italy, giving this load a level of production consistency that budget shells rarely achieve.
NSI The Australian Desert Rat Shot Shell - 28gm - 1250 fps - 9 - 12G - 250 Round Slab Key Features
- Calibre and Shell Length: 12 Gauge with a 70mm shell length, compatible with the vast majority of standard 12G shotguns used in Australian clay target and hunting applications.
- Shot Charge and Size: 28gm of #9 tempered lead shot, graded and polished for consistency. The smaller #9 pellet size delivers a dense pattern at typical clay and quail distances.
- Muzzle Velocity: 1250 fps (approximately 381 m/s), delivering a flat, predictable trajectory well-suited to fast-moving targets on the clay ground or in the field.
- Powder - Nobel Sport Vectan 206: A well-regarded propellant chosen for its long, even pressure curve. This translates to a softer, more manageable recoil impulse, which is especially valuable during high-volume shooting sessions.
- Wad - NSI GT24: A 4-wing design wad that promotes consistent shot cup release and optimal pellet patterning downrange, directly contributing to break consistency on clays.
- Primer - Martignoni 688: A reliable, purpose-matched primer manufactured in-house by NSI as part of their fully integrated component production process.
- Head Construction: 8mm nickel-plated steel head, offering a clean, corrosion-resistant base with positive extraction from the chamber.
- Tube: Semi-transparent orange hull, allowing a quick visual check of the shell condition and making identification straightforward in a busy shooting bag or shell catcher.
- 100% In-House Components: Every element of this shell, including powder, wad, primer and shot, is produced within the NSI facility in Italy, ensuring batch-to-batch consistency that is difficult to achieve with third-party components.
- Pack Size: 250 rounds per slab, structured as a full carton quantity designed for club shooters, regular range visitors, or those heading out for an extended hunt.
Whether you're grinding through a club DTL competition, running 5-Stand with mates, or spending a morning in the paddock over a pointing dog, the Desert Rat delivers a reliable, consistent shell that won't punish your shoulder or your budget over a long day's shooting.
