Mums Who Venture — Sammy Grodecki

Mother’s Day Series by Venture Hunting & Outdoors

This Mother’s Day, we’re celebrating the mums who are raising the next generation of hunters, fishers, and adventurers — while also carving out time for themselves and their own passions. The mums who pack the camping and hunting gear at 4am, carry the extra snacks, sit in the cold, teach patience and grit in the field, navigate the highs and lows, and wouldn’t trade a single moment in the bush for anything.

Welcome to Mums Who Venture — a Mother’s Day series where we sit down with real mums from our community and hear their stories of getting their kids into the outdoors, and making space for their own passion pursuits!

Q&A with Sammy

How did you get into hunting and the outdoors lifestyle?

“I’ve always loved the outdoors but got into hunting through my husband and wanting to spend more time with him. I fell in love with finding tracks and animal sign. Being outside exploring and playing in nature felt very natural like something everyone should be doing everyday.”

How do you involve your kids in this way of life?

“Chester just gets dragged along on most hunting trips or nights out listening. He loves and has found his own love for it being exposed at such a young age. We never didn’t include him.”

What’s your favourite memory in the field with your family?

“When I shot my first animal solo. Walking back into camp and seeing how excited my fellas were for me it was very emotional but such a proud moment and definitely a favourite memory for me and my family.”

What does a typical outdoor adventure look like for you and your family?

“Packing up for a long weekend and heading down south to our property in northern NSW and just enjoying the camp fire by night and hunting by day.”

What would you say to a mum who wants to get into this lifestyle but doesn’t know where to start?

“Reach out to any and every female hunter who inspires you, this community is just that a community and we are more than happy to help and learn where we can.”

What does this lifestyle mean to you as a mum?

“It means everything to me. I can teach my son to provide meat for himself and hopefully his future family. The family time this lifestyle brings is something I’ll always cherish.”
