Fred Barnes, founder of Barnes Bullets, began selling bullets from his basement workshop in Bayfield, CO, in 1932. In 1974, Randy and Coni Brooks purchased the company and relocated it to American Fork, Utah. Fred Barnes continued to consult with the couple for several months, providing valuable guidance.

Although Randy and Coni were young in their careers, their determination and passion for hunting propelled Barnes Bullets toward success. Their firsthand experience in the sport provided the knowledge necessary to drive the company forward.

In the fall of 1985, while hunting brown bears in Alaska, Randy conceived the idea of an expanding all-copper bullet. Coni was initially skeptical about eliminating lead, but successful hunts with Randy's prototypes soon convinced them they had discovered a game-changing innovation in bullet performance.

Their prototype evolved into the world-renowned X Bullet®, revolutionizing bullet construction and terminal performance. In 1989, Barnes launched the X Bullet, establishing itself as a leader in bullet innovation with a reputation for epic knockdowns and devastating on-game performance. Today, Barnes products are highly trusted and respected among hunters and shooters worldwide.
