In 1985, Akkar was established in Istanbul as a small manufacturing facility dedicated to producing parts for the shotgun and automobile industries. The company's entry into the international gun industry was marked by the production and distribution of its first pump-action and gas-operated semi-automatic shotguns, the Altay, in 1992. This achievement opened doors for other Turkish gun manufacturers to forge business relationships with American and international partners.

Over time, Akkar collaborated with various entities and began producing break-open shotguns under its own Churchill brand. The launch of the lightweight 206 series in 2005, characterized by its classic appearance and ergonomic features, propelled Akkar into the mainstream gun manufacturing market. The company's reputation was further solidified with the introduction of the Mammut 300 series, renowned for its innovative three-barreled shotguns. In 2012, Akkar expanded its influence in the international gun market with the debut of the 800 series.

Currently, Akkar's shotgun collection encompasses a diverse range of sporting, hunting, and tactical designs available in different gauges and calibers under 14 registered trademarks. These include Mammut®, Churchill®, Altay®, Karatay®, Maxi-Mag®, M-2000®, Armstrong®, Apache®, Komanchi®, Poseidon®, and Polaris®.

Akkar adheres to the standards set by The Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers' Institute (SAAMI) and is also tested and recognized by CIP (International Proof Commission) standards for compatibility with steel shots. This compliance reflects Akkar's commitment to environmental awareness and the reduction of lead pellet pollution.
