The Hornady 17 CAL .172 25 GR V-MAX Projectile - 100pk is Hornady's benchmark varmint projectile, purpose-built for the flat-shooting, high-velocity demands of .17 calibre cartridges. At just 25 grains with a G1 ballistic coefficient of 0.23 and a sectional density of 0.121, this bullet is engineered to launch fast and fly flat, making it a natural fit for pest control and varmint hunting where extended range shots on small targets are the norm. Packed 100 to a box, these are a serious reloading option for shooters who put volume through their .17s and aren't prepared to compromise on consistency or terminal performance.

Hornady 17 CAL .172 25 GR V-MAX Projectile - 100pk Key Features

Calibre and Diameter: Sized at .172 inches (4.37mm) for .17 CAL cartridges, ensuring correct fit and function for compatible .17 calibre reloads.

Bullet Weight: 25 grains (1.62g), a lightweight profile that pairs with the high velocities typical of .17 calibre cartridges to produce an exceptionally flat trajectory over distance.

Red Polymer Tip (V-MAX): The signature red polymer tip serves a dual purpose: it improves the ballistic coefficient by streamlining the bullet's profile, and on impact it acts as a wedge to initiate rapid, reliable expansion from the moment of contact.

AMP Bullet Jacket: The Hornady AMP (Advanced Manufacturing Process) copper jacket is drawn to match-grade concentricity tolerances, providing consistent bearing surface and maximum in-bore stability. The jacket is also built to handle the fast twist rates common in modern .17 calibre varmint rifles without jacket failure.

Swaged Lead Core: The lead core is swaged under high pressure for precise formation, ensuring uniform weight distribution and promoting consistent, dramatic fragmentation on impact.

Minimum Expansion Velocity: Reliable expansion is engineered to initiate at velocities as low as 1,600 fps (487 m/s), maintaining terminal effectiveness even at extended range as velocity bleeds off.

Ballistic Coefficient (G1): A G1 BC of 0.23 is competitive for a 25 grain .17 calibre projectile, helping resist wind deflection and sustain velocity downrange relative to bullet weight class.

Boattail and Flatbase Design Options: Hornady engineers the V-MAX with refined boattail and flatbase geometry for in-flight stability, contributing to the consistent accuracy the V-MAX line is known for across a wide range of varmint rifles.

Quantity: 100 projectiles per box, suited to reloaders who shoot regularly and prefer to buy in volume without sacrificing quality.

For the reloader running a .17 HMR equivalent centrefire or any .17 calibre platform built for serious pest control and varmint work, Hornady's V-MAX line has long been the standard other projectiles are measured against. The 25 grain .172 V-MAX delivers that signature combination of flat shooting and violent terminal performance that makes a genuine difference when you're dialling in on small targets at distance.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0851/6475/3217/files/hornady_17_cal_172_25_gr_v_max_projectile_100pk_h17105_venture_1.jpg?v=1791938751
